Druid Leveling Guide

Class – Druid
Role – Tank, Healer, Damage
Armor – Medium (Leather)
Shape shifts into animal forms
Versatile: can fill a healing, tanking, melee or caster role
Uses mana, rage or energy as a resource depending on form

Druids are shape shifters with an affinity for the plant and animal kingdoms. There are three types of druids: Balance druids who cast Nature or Arcane spells at range, Feral druids who take on the form of a cat or bear to fight in melee, or Restoration druids who can heal their allies with an emphasis on heal over time spells.

Primary Stats – This depends on their role.
Tank - Stamina / Strength
Healer / Caster - Spell Power / Intellgence
Damage - Strength / Stamina

Talents / Spec
Talent points become available starting at level 10. While leveling, you will only receive new powers to train in at even level numbers (i.e., 2, 4, 6, etc.), you will receive talent points at every level gain starting at 10. Don’t forget to allocate those points to augment your abilities. These are very important to the growth and development of your character. These talents may help your character with survivability, healing output, or damage output. Read the talents carefully when decided where to spend your points. That being said, let’s take a look at the Druid talent tree.

Balance – Here is a set of talents that agument your nature and arcane magic to build a caster type Druid. While the damage output of a caster Druid will never be as high as a Mage, there can be some strong damage builds to be found here.

Feral Combat – This talent line contains all that you need for your tanking form and cat form Druid. With increased stamina and strength talents, there are many feral Druids that are main and secondary tanks in a given raid team or instance run. Because of the damage build that can be found here, many solo Druids gravitate towards this line, at least in the early levels.

Restoration – With the right number of talents from this tree and the right gear, a restoration Druid can heal as well as any Priest if not better. Powerful heals over time differentiate a Druid from a Priest in the healing role for a large raid or group instance.

The recommended build for a new Druid would certainly be feral, with balance running a close second. Unless you are immediately involved in raiding or instance runs, the need for a restoration build won't come until later. By then though, you may have such a strong tank or dps build that raid teams and groups will want you for your tanking or dps output alone.

Remember, you can respec your character at any time if you decided that you don’t like where you have started to place your talent points. It’s important to note that while you can respec at any time, the cost increases each time you do with the first respec starting at 1 gold. Also, there are times when Blizzard makes significant changes to talent trees for one or all classes during a patch download. When warranted by Blizzard, all of your talent points could be refunded and you will need to take the time to re-allocate those points.

We'll be back with more additions to the Druid Leveling Guide soon.
