Talents / Spec
Talent points become available starting at level 10. While leveling, you will only receive new powers to train in at even level numbers (i.e., 2, 4, 6, etc.), you will receive talent points at every level gain starting at 10. Don’t forget to allocate those points to augment your abilities. These are very important to the growth and development of your character. These talents may help your character with survivability, healing output, or damage output. Read the talents carefully when decided where to spend your points. That being said, let’s take a look at the Paladin talent tree.
Holy – This talent tree infuses the Paladin with upgrades to all of his Holy powers and additional ones that are not available through your class trainer. While this particular build is not quite as solo oriented for the new player, a lot of hight level Paladins will choose this build as it makes them a much better healer.
Protection – Here is the talent line that will augment a Paladin's tanking abilities and increase his over all survivability at the cost of dps and healing. Major raid tank Paladins will have most of their points in this talent line.
Retribution – Here is the damage line for your Paladin. This will make you hit harder, crit more often and is the recommended talent tree for those solo and leveling builds.
For a new Paladin, the Retribution line is highly recommended for those that want to level fast. There is lots of armor available to you and with the ability to shield and heal yourself, a solo Paladin can easily take on mobs of 2-3 lvls higher than himself. Don't get too cocky though, as you move into wearing Plate armor, those repair bills can get expensive.
Remember, you can respec your character at any time if you decided that you don’t like where you have started to place your talent points. It’s important to note that while you can respec at any time, the cost increases each time you do with the first respec starting at 1 gold. Also, there are times when Blizzard makes significant changes to talent trees for one or all classes during a patch download. When warranted by Blizzard, all of your talent points could be refunded and you will need to take the time to re-allocate those points.
We'll be back with more additions to the Paladin Leveling Guide soon.
