Priest Leveling Guide
Class – Priest
Role – Healer, Damage
Armor – Light (Cloth)
Heal damage with Holy magic
Cause damage with Shadow magic
Uses mana as a resource
Priests are well rounded healers with a variety of tools. However, they can also sacrifice their healing to deal damage with Shadow magic. Within society, Priests act as the spiritual leaders of their respective races.
Primary Stats – Spell Power / Intellect / Spirit (if healing)
Talents / Spec
Talent points become available starting at level 10. While leveling, you will only receive new powers to train in at even level numbers (i.e., 2, 4, 6, etc.), you will receive talent points at every level gain starting at 10. Don’t forget to allocate those points to augment your abilities. These are very important to the growth and development of your character. These talents may help your character with survivability, healing output, or damage output. Read the talents carefully when decided where to spend your points. That being said, let’s take a look at the Priest talent tree.
Discipline – In this talent line, the Priest's stats and buff powers are increased. There are a few increases to healing abilities but not enough to make this build enticing enough for a healing Priest.
Holy – While there are a few things in this talent line that will increase the spell damage a Priest can output, the majority of this tree is geared towards making the Priest the single highest healer in the group or raid. Speaking of such, a healing Priest of any large raid group will certainly have almost all aspects of the Holy line.
Shadow – Nearly as important to most raid groups as a healing Priest, a Shadow Priest ranks right up there with the major damage dealers. The Shadow line greatly increases your damage output to the point that most raiding Shadow Priests have to be careful of their constant stream of damage and the risk of pulling the target off of the main tank.
Capable of sustaining massive damage output and the ability to easily switch to a healer role, Priests have become a very important player for any established or pug (Pick Up Group) raid team. Please make sure that raid teams know how you are specced before you get into the dungeon and someone asks you why you aren't healing when you snap into Shadowform.
Remember, you can respec your character at any time if you decided that you don’t like where you have started to place your talent points. It’s important to note that while you can respec at any time, the cost increases each time you do with the first respec starting at 1 gold. Also, there are times when Blizzard makes significant changes to talent trees for one or all classes during a patch download. When warranted by Blizzard, all of your talent points could be refunded and you will need to take the time to re-allocate those points.
We'll be back with more additions to the Priest Leveling Guide soon.
