Rogue Leveling Guide
Class – Rogue
Role – Damage
Armor – Medium (Leather)
Wields a weapon in each hand
Emphasizes stealth, poisons and control
Build up 5 combo points to unleash finishing moves
Uses energy as a resource
Rogues often serve as assassins or scouts, though many are lone wolves as well. Rogues specialize in dual-wielding a variety of weapons, though the iconic rogue weapon is the dagger. Rogues can often sneak around enemies or attack an opponent from behind to try and finish them off quickly.
Primary Stats – Attack Power / Agility
Talents / Spec
Talent points become available starting at level 10. While leveling, you will only receive new powers to train in at even level numbers (i.e., 2, 4, 6, etc.), you will receive talent points at every level gain starting at 10. Don’t forget to allocate those points to augment your abilities. These are very important to the growth and development of your character. These talents may help your character with survivability, healing output, or damage output. Read the talents carefully when decided where to spend your points. That being said, let’s take a look at the Rogue talent tree.
Assassination – This talent tree increases your attacks to land more criticals and to apply poisons to your targets for that damage over time aspect.
Combat – The combat talent line is very strong in making you an overall better dps rogue. While the burst damage available from the assassination line is high, the combat line creates an even increase in power no matter what the situation.
Subtlety – This line of talents improves all of your attacks when initiated from stealth. This is a good blend of burst damage but with heavy influence to attacks that bring you out of stealth.
Some would say that Rogues are the heavy hitters in the game. I think it's a toss up between Rogues and Mages as to who puts out the most damage. Rogues are certainly a bit more hearty with their ability to wear leather armor and drop aggro very quickly. You really have to play one to see if you like the style of heavy damage in melee environment or at range. If you prefer the ranged heavy hitter, please jump to the Mage section.
Remember, you can respec your character at any time if you decided that you don’t like where you have started to place your talent points. It’s important to note that while you can respec at any time, the cost increases each time you do with the first respec starting at 1 gold. Also, there are times when Blizzard makes significant changes to talent trees for one or all classes during a patch download. When warranted by Blizzard, all of your talent points could be refunded and you will need to take the time to re-allocate those points.
We'll be back with more additions to the Rogue Leveling Guide soon.
